The mini kraft album has 8 inserts which makes for 16 pages.  It’s got a sturdy cover and a wide spine that holds up nicely in case your album gets pretty thick.

Layout 1 – Spring Bliss

Crop Candy Kit Club members know that you get a four-color instruction booklet with layout patterns and cutting guides to help you make your pages (and cards).  If you’ve been following the blog, you know that I always try to put my own twist on things.  For example, here’s what was presented in the booklet–a nice wedding layout.

Mine is a nature focus, specifically the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C.

Layout 2 – Let’s Bike

And here’s the bonus layout.  In the guide, it’s a boy theme but I decided to showcase my bike ride along the Potomac.

In both layouts, I used the materials included in the Best version of the kit (shown above).  However, in the bike layout, I added the Chocolate alphabet for the title and a journaling block from the Authentic stamp set.

You can see how easy it is to use the guide as a source of inspiration for your own pages.  But remember, you don’t have to do exactly what’s pictured in it.  Make the layouts your own by adding your own touches through pictures, titles or even embellishments.

When making the cards, you’re using the same techniques as you do when you make the layouts from the kit.

Featured Cards

When you make the cards, you’re working from one pattern.  Each card is rotated to give you a different look.

Another thing to know about the cards is that the directions call for making two cards of each design.  There are three designs so you’ll end up making six cards.  If you only want three cards (one of each design), then only cut enough bases for three.  Again, if you follow the diagrams in the workshop guide, they’ll have you cutting six bases.

In this design, you’re going to need a circle cutter or circle punch.  You’re also going to be stamping off the edge of the circles and in the orange center piece on card #2.  Make sure you have a scrap piece of paper handy.  You’ll also be distressing.  You can use an edge distresser or scissors (watch how-to video).  If you ordered the Best version of the kit, you’ll get to use Top Coats-Rockin’ on the cards too (watch video on how to use Top Coats).

Bonus Cards

Again, you’ll be using the same techniques as above.  The pattern is from the Originals cardmaking pattern book.

I’ve received a few questions about techniques that are used in the kits, so from now on when I post the layouts and cards I make from the kits, I’m also going  to give you some tips to help you put your projects together.

Layout 1 – “Be You”

For the first layout, I didn’t stray too far from the sample in the Workshop Guide.

Materials:

• You Rock kit of the month (Best option)
• Rustic Alphabet stamp set
• Goldrush, Outdoor Denim and Sunflower Exclusive Inks

A few things to note as you work on this layout:

1. Use the Rolling stamping technique on the title and the stars to get two-tone ink coverage.
2. Use an edge distresser or scissors to rough the edges of the cardstock, patterned paper and photos.
3. The center photo spreads pages 1 and 2.  As you can see, I didn’t have much luck aligning my face over the two pages.  You may want to use a different kind of photo other than someone’s face.
4. If you get the Best option, you’ll be able to use the Rockin’ Top Coats overlays.  The Top Coats have a protective film that you must remove before you apply them to your layout.  You can remove the film by laying the printed side down on a flat surface and scratching your fingernail lightly on an outside edge until the film lifts up.
5. Use an adhesive that dries clear on the Top Coats.  I used a glue pen and it worked well.
6. I recommend using tweezers to apply the Bitty Sparkles that are included in the Best kit option.

Bonus Layout – H & O

An homage to my favorite group.  Yes, Hall and Oates are still rockin’!

Materials:

• You Rock kit (Best option)
• Rustic Alphabet stamp set
• Chocolate stamp set (ampersand)
• Layout pattern:Cherish – “Unified Whole”

My husband, Brian surprised me with tickets to see Hall and Oates at the 9:30 Club in D.C. back in October.  It’s a standing-room-only joint and I was lucky to be thisclose to Daryl and John.  I took these pictures with my iPhone and I’ve been holding on to them until I found the perfect paper  to make a layout with.  I think You Rock’s color palette of Goldrush, Indian Corn Blue, Olive and Outdoor Denim complement my pictures quite nicely.

The bonus layout uses the same techniques as the main one.
