DC Blizzard ’09: Scrapbook Layouts

Yesterday I was able to work on some layouts for a few hours.  Then my next door neighbors came over for dinner.  We had chicken parmigiana, red wine, homemade fudge and I made some tasty blue raspberry martinis.  Good times!

Anyway, back to the layouts!

About a year ago, I bought the Aspen paper packet so that I could practice making layouts using the Reflections scrapbook patterns program.  Aspen has a wintry feel to it and reminds me of snow.  I didn’t think I’d ever use it for a real layout because it doesn’t snow too much around here.  To me, it was perfect to practice with and show my customers how to make a complete album using the Reflections system.  I finished the eight-page sample album and stored it away.

(You can actually make a 10-page album from one paper packet, but I stopped at eight.  I think it’s because I got distracted by other projects which happens to me quite often).

Materials:

Layout pattern – Reflections: Title Topper 1a (p. 14)

Notice the bling I added to the snowflakes as well as the dotted line I drew to make it seem like they’re floating.

Layout pattern: Sidebar – Main Frame (p. 36)

Layout pattern: Sidebar – Triple (3c) rotated (p. 42)

I used a Twilight Jingle brad to match the Twilight-colored snowflake.

I still have a few more layouts to do and I’ll put them in the gallery when I’m done.  As I mentioned, I did the layouts in advance.  This is typically how I work.  I like to get the basic structure of the pages done (the layout pattern and pictures).  Then I go back and add the titles, journaling and embellishments.

As you can see from the shot below, half of the work is done.  I don’t know if this is the best method of working, I just know it’s worked for me for quite some time.

I will most likely work on them tomorrow since I found out the Federal Government is closed Monday and my company follows what the government does.  Whoo hoo!

Here are some Reflections layout samples for you to try (PDF):

Have you done any layouts of the snow?  Share your layouts by e-mailing a sample to me and I’ll post them here, or leave a link to your layouts in the comments section below.

  1. Wow lots of snow! You created a cool scrapbooking project to remember all the details. You can look back years later and reminisce about all that snowfall. Best wishes and Merry Christmas!
