At my job, whenever there’s a birthday, someone makes a cake. Yesterday, it was my turn. I decided to make this Pink Lady Cake that I saw on Smitten Kitchen. I never make things from Smitten Kitchen. I just like looking at the pictures of the food.
However, last year I saw the Pink Lady Cake recipe and decided to hold on to it just in case I needed to make one. Now a year later, I had my chance to test my baking skills.
I’d like to point out that I’ve never decorated a cake before. And I made my own buttercream icing (adapted from the Wilton site–no shortening, just butter because the Crisco in the pantry was more than two years old and a little sketchy).
I know the flourish isn’t perfect, but it was my first time, so it’s good enough. Besides, Holly, the birthday girl seemed to like it.

Your cake looks awesome! i’m impressed with your decorating skills. Holly looks dangerous with that knife — maybe something to think about the next time you give a coworker a weapon of that size!
Thank you! Yes, Holly looks a little too happy with the knife. The scary thing is that it’s hers!
